Child Advocates work individually with each child to provide
guidance and support during the healing process, while modeling
healthy non-violent relationships. They facilitate structured
activities and programming like pre-school hour, art time,
story hour, after-school clubs and tutoring, as well as accompany
and supervise children on field trips.
One of the main goals
of the children’s program is to allow these children
to “be kids again” and provide them with one-on-one
attention. We provide services to young children as well as
teenage children of survivors of domestic violence and sexual
assault.
Children also have the opportunity to spend time in the playroom
which is divided into play “stations” that focus
on different age groups and learning styles by providing activities
and toys that are stimulating and culturally sensitive. The
children’s center is structured to create an environment
for children that is motivating both developmentally and psychologically.
Other services include evaluation and referrals for counseling
and other assistance, age-specific children’s support
groups, safety planning, school enrollment, transportation
to school, and parenting education. |
