Recent studies show that as many as 40 percent of America’s homeless youth identify themselves as being part of the lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender (LGBT) community—yet they account for only 5 percent of all young people in this country. Even worse, nearly all of them are living on the street as a result of family rejection and abuse.
On Wednesday, October 23, SafeHouse Center will bring this neglected subject to public attention by hosting a Community Read event featuring “Kicked Out,” an anthology that chronicles the experiences of LGBT young people thrown out of their homes by parents and guardians.
